Greta Hall, Sustainability & the Environment

You CAN reduce the impact of your stay
You can be a 'sustainable guest'............
- Use public transport to travel to Cumbria OR reduce your car use by walking, cycling or using public transport while you are here
- Off-set the carbon generated by your travelling - use a carbon calculator and make a suitable donation to an organisation which will plant on your behalf eg. UNESCO Billion Tree Campaign
- Refuse to 'purchase' excess packaging
- Use our comprehensive recycling centre - paper, glass, tetra packs, hard & soft plastics, tins, cans & foil
- Compost all your uncooked food waste
- Collect your cooked food waste for our chickens
- Reduce your use of the gas heating system.
- Use the wood fire/stove & 'AAL' (add another layer)!
- Turn-off appliances (microwaves, TV, stoves) when not in use
- Always use the dishwasher & washing machines with a full load and on the 'economy' programme
- Reduce your use of the tumble dryers - use the washing lines or clothes airers to dry clothes.
- Only boil as much water in the kettle as you really need
- Have a quick shower instead of a bath - we appreciate that very little ones will need small baths!
- 'Bin it' - use the bags provided to bin sanitary products
- Order milk from our milkman in glass bottles rather than purchasing milk in plastic
- Support the local community by patronising locally owned shops and attractions
We leave it up to your conscience to act on your promise!
We encourage all our guests to contribute to a variety of Environmental & Social Responsibility Projects that Greta Hall supports -you can do this easily by adding £1 per guest to the cost of your accommodation.

Our practical and academic activities illustrate a high level of commitment for sustainability on waste and carbon reduction. We offer a discount to guests who would like to support us in our commitment to leave a legacy of a sustainable future.
