Introduction
The oldest part of Greta Hall (left hand side), covering approximately one third of the main house and extending over two floors.
the Coleridge Wing has two double bedrooms and one twin, sitting room, kitchen, a bathroom and a separate toilet. Furniture from Indonesia and China and carpets from Afganistan complement the Georgian features of the house.
Hartley's Parlour - the sitting room
Hartley's Parlour is described in Sara Coleridge's diary and retains many of the original features; beautiful cornicing, an elegant bookcase, cast-iron fireplace, huge sash windows and window seats. TV, DVD and stereo system, squashy sofas and the elm dining table make this room the centre of the house.
Coleridge's Study - master bedroom
A huge room with phenomenal views down the Borrowdale and Newlands valleys and of Skiddaw. A stunning Chinese opium bed forms the centerpiece of the room, perfect for quiet contemplation & writing. Please note: this bed is a standard double and has access from one side only.
Aunt Lovell's Room - large double bedroom
With sweeping views of the woodland, River Greta, Skiddaw and Latrigg, Aunt Lovell's Room has a beautiful king size four-poster bed.
Jackson's Bedroom - twin bedroom
This twin room has a beautiful curved window with views of Skiddaw, wooden window shutters and a window seat. The furnishings are simple yet elegant.
(Both Coleridge's Study & Aunt Lovell's room can accommodate a cot)
Kitchen - A fully equipped kitchen with breakfast table, a large fridge-freezer, washing machine & tumbler dryer. Sorry, no dishwasher! The kitchen / entrance has a slate floor and is the only room where we allow pets in the Coleridge Wing. There is not a huge amount of preparation area however the space is adequate.
Bathroom - a large bathroom fitted with a bath, separate shower and toilet.
Toilet - Toilet with small handbasin.
Parking - This wing has parking for a maximum of two cars right beside your front door.
Garden - Although there is no private garden for the Coleridge Wing, you do have a small sitting area with garden furniture just outside your front door. You also have complete access to all the grounds.
Dogs - are welcome (max. 2) but must be restricted to the kitchen, (we provide a 'baby gate' to put across the kitchen door). Please do not let them into any other parts of the accommodation as this will probably result in carpets requiring washing and forfeit of deposit.
Heating & Hot Water
It is important to remember that Greta Hall is a Grade 1* listed building and has no double glazing, please do not expect it to be as warm and draft free as a modern house.
BUT, Greta Hall has an efficient gas central heating system & with the open fire in the sitting room, the Coleridge Wing is lovely and snug.
Hot water is gas heated 'on-demand'.
Please do read through the Information & Terms & Conditions pages before proceeding with your booking.
