Coach House - sleeps 9 - 11

The Coach House is a large slate and cobble building which offers high quality 'upside down' accommodation. The Coach House stands directly behind Greta Hall on the bank above the River Greta. Access to the Coach House is along a private road at the end of Stanger Street.

Coleridge had plans to turn this into his study but eventually decided that the domesticity of life at Greta Hall did not suit his creative temperament. He returned periodically over the next 30 years to visit his wife & children. The Coach House was more recently used by Keswick school as a girl's dormitory. It isn't the most photogenic of buildings BUT it's lovely inside!

Top Floor

The living area comprises:
A huge (20m) airy room which retains the original 'A' frame beamed roof. Long windows make the most of the light and views towards Latrigg, Skiddaw & Grisdale Pike.

Large comfortable sitting area with TV/DVD/CD player, three 3-seater sofas & one armchair.
Dining area with huge oak table (12 seater).
Fully equipped fitted kitchen with fridge/freezer, electric hob with double ovens, integrated dishwasher and convection microwave.

Furniture and rugs from Indonesia,China and Afganistan complement the Georgian features of the room.

Bedroom 1 - Double
A traditional Portugese farmhouse kingsize bed, forms the centerpiece of this room which has stunning views of Skiddaw in the winter and the sound of the Greta all year round. Ample wardrobe and drawer space.

Bedroom 2 - Twin gallery (children over 8 or fit adults)
This room provides additional flexability in the accommodation. Under the eaves the room is reached by a steep open staircase. It has two single divans & plenty of storage however, the room overlooks the main living area, offers no real privacy and does not have an external window.

Main Bathroom
A good sized simple bathroom with a bath with an 'over-bath' watering-can style shower.

Two dogs may be kept in the slated entrance hall, this measures approx 10' X 3' and from experience it is fine for a couple of medium sized dogs. 'Baby gates' are provided to keep dogs from the rest of the Coach House. Please remember we have free range ducks & hens!
